Method for Differentiating the Positional Precision of Historic Sites Using GIS GIS를 이용한 서울시 유적의 위치 정밀도 구별 방안

Abstract

When it comes to representing Seoul historic sites on today’s landscape, some are supported by proper evidence, while others are not. The sites are indiscriminately displayed on electronic maps in an identical shape, creating a critical misconception that all the locational proof is equally reliable. I address the issue in this article by differentiating the positional precision of 347 historic sites explained by the Seoul Cultural Historical Markers. GIS restored their presence as point and polygon features along the way. I devised the point precision for each historic site in three levels and the areal reliability in two, which create six possible outcomes when combined. As a result, 76% of Seoul historic sites mark “precise” in point and areal reliability, whereas 3% are identified as “imprecise” in both criteria. The six cases detail the procedure in which I determined the two types of positional precision. To conclude, the most appropriate way to display these precision levels is to use the pop-up window, as commonly used by popular interactive map platforms. A couple of lines of information appended to the existing format must be a plausible suggestion to private companies, but official maps run by the government are also good alternatives.

유적에는 그 원위치를 현재의 경관 위에 확실히 비정할 수 있는 것과 그렇지 못한 것이 있다. 그러나 현재 상용 전자지도 서비스에서 유적은 같은 모양의 점으로 표출되므로 모든 위치비정 결과가 똑같이 믿을 만하다는 오해를 일으킨다. 이에 본고는 서울시 내 역사문화표석이 해설하는 347개 유적을 GIS 셰이프파일의 점과 면으로 복원한 뒤 그들의 위치 정밀도를 구분했다. 3단계 점 정밀도와 2단계 면 정밀도의 조합은 총 6가지 경우의 수를 산출하며, 그 결과 전체 유적 중 76%는 두 정밀도 모두 ‘높음’, 3%는 모두 ‘낮음’으로 판정되었다. 이렇게 구분한 정밀도를 최종적으로 일반 이용자에게 보여주기 위해서는 현행 전자지도가 각 장소의 정보를 보여줄 때 쓰는 팝업 창을 그대로 활용하여 그 아래 한두 줄을 추가하는 방안이 바람직하다.
