A Study on Exploring the Spatial Boundary and Characteristics of Suwon City-Region based on Functional Linkage 기능적 연계에 기초한 수원 도시권의 범위 설정과 변화 탐색

Abstract

This study aims to identify an actual spatial boundary of Suwon city-region, which means a practical range of urban functions of a central place in the southern Seoul metropolitan area. The boundary according to the functional linkage between Suwon and the surrounding areas was analyzed by comparing commuting zone, business zone, and daily-life zone in 1997, 2008, and 2018 using the data of <Household Travel Diary Survey in Seoul Metropolitan Area> based on three indices: dependency ratio, occupancy ratio, and traffic volume. The study then classified the surrounding areas into three types of areas depending on how many functions of city zones are satisfied. The result confirmed that the main areas of Suwon city-region are formed southward of Suwon, revolving around Hwaseong, Yongin, and Osan due to Seoul’s influence. In recent years, the spatial extent of the three functional zones has been decreasing. Especially, the shrinkage of the daily-life zone is remarkable. While the area that corresponds to all three functional zones has been reduced, the areas that only one or two functions are connected have been expanded, so the functional connection between Suwon and the surrounding areas has also been abated.

본 연구는 수도권 남부의 중심도시로 기능해 온 수원시의 실질적인 도시기능의 범위인 도시권의 공간적 범위를 확인하고 그 변화 양상을 파악하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 기능적 연계에 따른 수원 도시권의 범위는 수도권 가구통행실태조사 자료를 활용해 통행목적별 의존도, 점유율, 통행량 비중의 세 가지 지표를 기준으로 1997년과 2008년, 2018년 시점의 통근권, 업무권, 일상생활권의 범위를 비교하였으며, 기능별 도시권의 포함정도를 바탕으로 동일도시권, 밀접도시권, 연계도시권을 설정하였다. 수원의 기능별 도시권은 수원시와 인접한 화성시, 용인시, 오산시를 중심으로 형성되어 있으며 서울의 영향으로 수원 이남지역으로 치우쳐 있었다. 최근 시기로 올수록 기능별 도시권은 축소되는 양상을 보이며 특히 일상생활권의 위축이 두드러졌다. 3개 기능별 도시권에 모두 해당하는 동일도시권은 축소되는 반면, 1~2개 기능만 연계된 밀접도시권과 연계도시권은 확대되면서 수원과 주변지역간의 기능적 연계성 역시 약화되는 양상이 나타났다.
