Abstract

The household refers to a unit or a group of people with a common livelihood. This is the basic unit for establishing various public policies or estimating housing demands. The household characteristics continuously change as the structure of households varies over time. Therefore, it is very important but difficult to predict accurately household projections. In particular, household projection in small areas administered by local governments is essential for making regional plans and policies. However, it is still difficult to produce projections in small areas due to the complexity of estimation, it has only been produced nationwide at the city and province level. In this context, this study developed the LSTM model based on deep learning and attempted to forecast households in districts of Seoul for 2025~2045. The multivariate LSTM model, can produce estimates simultaneously considering the population change related to households and the spatial change of residential environments. As a result of the analysis, the LSTM showed an excellent predictive performance in forecasting the number of households by the structure of households by district. Also, projection results for the future appeared similar patterns compared with household projection results from Statistics Korea. This study contributes to a new methodological framework for estimating household projections in small areas. Also, reliable empirical results will be utilized to make regionally optimized plans and policies.

공동의 생계활동을 하는 사람들의 단위인 가구는 각종 공공 정책 수립이나 주택 수요 예측 등에 활용되는 기본 통계 단위이다. 가구 구조의 변화에 따라 가구 특성도 지속적으로 변하기 때문에 보다 정확한 가구추계를 예측하는 것은 어렵지만 무척 중요한 연구 주제이다. 특히 기초자치단체와 같은 소지역 단위의 가구추계는 지역 특성에 맞는 지역 계획과 정책 수립에 필수적이다. 이러한 중요성에도 불구하고 장래가구추계는 추계의 복잡성으로 인해 여전히 소지역 단위로 산출하지 못하고 있으며, 시도와 같은 전역적 단위로만 생산되고 있다. 이러한 상황에서 본 연구는 소지역 단위의 장래가구추계를 위한 딥러닝 기반의 LSTM 모델을 개발하고 이를 이용하여 서울시 자치구별 2025~2045년의 가구추계 결과를 제시하고자 하였다. 다변량 LSTM 모델은 가구와 관련된 인구 변화 뿐 아니라, 소지역 단위 추정에서 중요한 주거 환경의 공간적 변화를 추계 결과에 동시에 반영할 수 있다는 장점이 있다. 분석 결과, LSTM 모델은 가구 특성별, 자치구별 가구수를 예측하는데 있어 우수한 예측력을 보이는 것으로 나타났으며, 미래 추계 결과 또한 통계청의 가구추계 결과와 유사한 패턴을 보여주고 있다. 본 연구는 소지역 단위의 장래가구추계를 위한 새로운 방법론적 프레임워크를 제시하고, 신뢰성 있는 경험적 결과를 보여줌으로써 지역적 특성이 잘 반영된 지역 계획 및 정책 수립에 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
