A Study on Strengthening and Exploring the Direction of Physical Geography Education in Response to Climate Change: Focusing on Elementary Physical Geography Education

Abstract

Today, the demands of the times to respond to climate change, which has become a global issue, and the need for ecological transition efforts, require changes in the school curriculum. This study focuses on the direction of physical geography education in response to climate change based on awareness of the physical environment of the country and the world, understanding the harmonious relationship between humans and the environment based on this, and cultivating perspectives and practical skills on environmental ethics for ecological transition and presented the necessity and direction of strengthening physical geography education in elementary education. The challenges of physical geography education for this study were presented. First, education to cultivate sensitivity to nature, second, reinforcement of the contents of the physical environment itself, third, active reflection of the formation process of the physical environment and changes, fourth, field-oriented exploratory learning where active contact and interaction with nature can be achieved was proposed.

오늘날 글로벌 이슈가 된 기후변화 대응에의 시대적 요청, 생태전환적 노력의 필요성 등은 학교 교육과정의 변화를 필요로 하고 있다. 본 연구는 기후변화에 대응하는 자연지리 교육의 방향을 국토 및 세계의 자연환경 인식, 이에 기반한 인간과 환경과의 조화로운 관계성 파악, 그리고 생태전환을 위한 환경 윤리에 대한 관점과 실천력 함양에 바탕을 두었으며, 초등교육에서 자연지리 교육의 강화 필요성과 방향을 제시하였다. 첫째, 자연 감수성 함양, 둘째, 자연환경 자체의 내용 학습의 강화에 기반한 인간 생활과의 관계성 파악, 셋째, 자연환경의 형성과정과 변화 내용의 적극적 반영, 넷째, 자연과의 직접적 접촉과 상호작용을 지원하는 현장 중심의 탐구학습을 제안하였다.
