Typology of Regional Youth-to-Adult Employment Gaps and Structural Determinants 지역 간 청년층 고용 격차 유형화 및 구조적 요인 분석

Abstract

This study empirically examines the relative employment status of youth across regions and analyzes the spatial distribution patterns and key determinants of youth employment status. Using employment statistics at the county and district levels, it performs a K-means cluster analysis based on time-series indicators of the youth-to-adult employment rates, as well as unemployment rate data. It then applies multinomial logistic regression to compare the characteristics of each cluster. The analysis identifies four distinct cluster types: “optimal,” “moderate,” “declining,” and “severe.” Key differentiating factors among clusters include the proportions of manufacturing workers, professionals, and economically inactive youth population as well as youth net migration rates, housing costs, and stress perception rates. Notably, regions with weaker youth employment outcomes and larger youth-to-adult employment gaps tend to exhibit higher levels of youth migration and employment instability. This study provides empirical evidence and foundational insights for designing region-specific employment policies that address youth employment challenges from both regional and generational perspectives.

본 연구는 지역별 청년층 고용의 상대적 격차 수준을 실증적으로 파악하고, 그 공간적 분포 패턴과 지역 유형화 요인을 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 시군구 단위 고용통계를 활용하여 전체 고용률과 청년층 고용률 격차의 시계열 지표 및 실업률 데이터를 바탕으로 K-평균 군집분석을 수행하고, 다항 로지스틱 회귀분석을 통해 각 군집의 특성을 비교한다. 분석 결과, “고용격차 개선형”, “청년고용 양호형”, “고용격차 심화형”, “청년실업 위험형”의 네 가지 군집 유형이 도출되었으며, 이들 간에는 제조업 및 전문직･사무직, 청년층 순 이동률, 비경제활동 상태의 청년층, 주거비, 스트레스 인지율 등의 지표가 군집 유형을 구분하는 유의미한 요인으로 나타났다. 특히 고용지표가 낮고 전체 대비 청년층 고용률이 상대적으로 낮은 지역일수록 청년층 유출과 고용 불안정성이 복합적으로 나타나는 경향을 보였다. 본 연구는 청년층 고용 문제를 지역 간･세대 간 격차의 이중적 차원에서 접근하여 지역 고용 정책 설계를 위한 실증적 근거와 기초자료를 제공한다는 점에서 의미가 있다.
