Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop an integrating migration pathway model focusing on Vietnam-Korea returned labor migrants and to find influencing factors on their pathway, including regional characteristics. To collect primary data, we conducted in-depth face-to-face interviews with 21 returned migrant workers in two districts in Nghệ An Province, Vietnam. This study proposes a spatio-temporal migration pathway model modifying King and Skeldon(2010)'s schematic model. Based on the narratives from returned migrant workers, we added three more dimensions to analyze the consequence of return migration, which includes movement to transit or third countries, legal and illegal migrations, and types of employment permit. Findings suggest seven typologies of migration pathways exist among Vietnamese return migrant workers, and diverse macro-, micro-, and meso-level factors influence individual decisions forming migration pathways.

본 연구의 목적은 이주노동자의 거주 지역 환경이 이주노동 전후에 미치는 영향에 대하여 분석함과 동시에 베트남-한국 간 이주노동자들의 이주배경부터 귀환에 이르기까지의 이주경로를 파악하여 모형화하고, 속성에 따라 유형화하는데 있다. 응에안성의 컨류군과 탄쯔엉군 출신 귀환노동자 21명과의 면담조사를 바탕으로 이주에 영향을 미치는 요소와 이동의 매개체의 역할을 중심으로 시공간적 이주경로를 분석하였고, 그 결과 이주노동자의 이주배경과 귀환에 이르기까지의 과정을 다음의 3가지로 분류하였다. 첫 번째로 입국방법은 다시 합법적 입국과 불법입국으로, 체류기간내의 합법적 취업과 불법취업으로 세분화했으며, 두 번째 체류지별 취업유형은 원양어선의 선원으로 취로활동을 하는 경우와 국내에서 취업하는 경우로 나누었다. 세 번째로 한국으로 오기 전 다른 외국으로의 이주경험 유무도 국제적 이동의 패턴을 이해하는데 있어서 중요한 요소로 작용할 수 있다는 점에서 하나의 유형으로 분류하였다. 그리고 분류의 기초적인 항목을 표로 작성하였고 면담자 개개인의 이주유형을 그림으로 그려서 귀환이주노동자의 시공간적 이주경로를 일반화시킬 수 있는 모형을 도출하였다. 국내와 국제이주를 통합적으로 연구한 King and Skeldon(2010)의 schematic model을 수정․보완한 본 모형은 공간적인 이주유형과 시간적인 이주유형을 하나로 나타냈다는 점에서 시공간적 이동패턴의 모형화에 유의한 시사점을 제공할 수 있으리라고 본다.
